Absence of bugs!

I have accepted a gig reading for John Herndon’s Literary Coffee House, Monday night. (Feb. 28)…and the Coffee House, I have found out, takes place at Austin Java, on South Lamar. Said Java joint is in what used to be Austin Terminex, the primo BUG ERADICATOR in the Horned City for thirty years. Terminex had a giant bug in front of the place, that rotated, and had a blinking eye or nose, not sure which, that became a local favorite, much like the statue of Stevie Ray Vaughn on Town Lake Park. Anyway, the bug is now history, gone, along with the pesticides and little insect carcasses that decorated the flooring. It occurs to me that all things, including moi, are really rather transient…
